Sky is Still Far Away
"Sky is Still Far Away" by Anjum Awasthi Malik is a beautiful story of a pure soul, Pakhi. Just like her name she has high hopes and dreams in her life and wanted to fly but she doesn't know her fate. She met a boy at the airport, and started liking him and was looking forward to spending some more time with him when one day she came to know he betrayed her, he has lied to her about his identity. She left for her hometown, devastated by this betrayal and chose to stay there only due to her father's health. She couldn't get over this as he was the only one with whom she opened her heart and shared her dreams and he supported her in that. She hails from an orthodox, patriarchal family never get that support from her father. She was still trying to overcome the fact that the person to whom she trusted very much has betrayed her when something happens which changed her life upside down.
The story which seems like a normal love story, where one gets betrayed and then moves on to someone else and the story ends on a happy note, is beyond that. This story is something, not just a love story, it talks about many things in disguise of a love story. The story revolves around the theme of love, betrayal, dreams, marriage, domestic violence, and patriarchy.
The most important aspect which I understand from this story is patriarchy, that's how patriarchy works. You believe it is love or affection but it's sometimes a patriarchal mindset that has just stopped you from achieving something you desire the most in the name of love.
Well, I truly appreciate the author for writing this story, I was truly enchanted with the story and I could understand and relate. Now, to understand what I am saying, you have to read the book yourself and trust me, you are not going to regret reading this story.
